Saturday will mark the second of 12 regular season games at Madison Square Garden for the Red Storm, the highest total for the program since 1951-52. Last season, the Johnnies went 12-0 at "The Mecca," including three wins in three days to clinch the program's first BIG EAST Tournament crown since 2000. St. John's has played at least one regular season game at Madison Square Garden every season since 1930-31.
Ole Miss will be the Red Storm's third SEC opponent of the young season. With Kentucky on the schedule later this month, 2025-26 will be the first time in program history that St. John's has faced more than two SEC foes in the same campaign. Ole Miss will also be the Red Storm's fifth high-major opponent in the team's first eight games, the first time that St. John's has played five current high-major schools in its first eight contests since 1974-75.
St. John's (4-3) will return to action following a nine-day break. The Red Storm last took the court in Las Vegas at the Players Era Championship (Nov. 24-26), where the Johnnies went 1-2 with a pair of setbacks to nationally ranked opponents in then-No. 15 Iowa State and then-No. 21 Auburn. The Red Storm picked up a victory over Baylor in Sin City, shooting a season-high 57.4 percent against the Bears and connecting on 11 of its 22 attempts from 3-point range.
Bryce Hopkins led the way for the Johnnies in Las Vegas, averaging 17.0 points over the Red Storm's three contests at Players Era, highlighted by a 26-point effort in the win over Baylor. On the season, Hopkins leads the Red Storm averaging 16.1 points per outing and ranks second on the team in assists per game (3.0).
Zuby Ejiofor posted his second 20-plus point effort of the season in the Players Era finale against Auburn, scoring 24 points against the Tigers. On the season, Ejiofor ranks second on the team in scoring 15.6 points per game and leads the team in both rebounds (6.6 rpg) and assists (3.3 apg).
Through eight games, the Red Storm is averaging 92.3 points per game, good enough for 12th nationally through games played on Wednesday. The Johnnies rank eighth nationally in adjusted offensive efficiency according to KenPom. The Red Storm's 92.3 point-per-game scoring average is the program's highest through eight games since 1971-72 (96.5 ppg).
Through games played on Tuesday, St. John's is the only team in the BIG EAST and one of just three high-major squads in the country to feature six players averaging double figures (UCLA and Baylor).
Ole Miss (5-3) comes to The Garden on the heels of three straight losses against high-major foes, dropping decisions to Iowa, Utah and Miami following a 5-0 start.
One of the nation's top shot blocking teams at 6.1 per game, the Rebels boast three double-figure scorers. AJ Storr and Ilias Kamardine lead the team at 13.8 points per game while Malik Dia adds 12.5 per contest. Storr was a BIG EAST All-Freshman selection at St. John's in 2022-23 before making stops at Wisconsin and Kansas.
St. John's and Ole Miss will meet for the second time in the history of the two programs. The first came in the opening round of the 1989 NIT, a 70-67 win for the Johnnies behind a 25-point, 15-rebound double-double from Jayson Williams. St. John's would go on to win a record fifth NIT that spring.
After hosting Ole Miss, the Red Storm will take a week off for final exams before returning to action against Iona on Dec. 13 at Madison Square Garden. Tickets for that contest are available by clicking here.
