St. John’s Takes Care of Villanova, 5-2

The Johnnies earned their first BIG EAST win of the season against the Wildcats
QUEENS, N.Y. – The St. John's women's tennis team handled BIG EAST foe Villanova, 5-2, on Friday at the USTA National Tennis Center in Queens.
The Johnnies (5-2, 1-0 BIG EAST) took the team doubles point before earning four wins in singles play to snap its two-match losing streak.
Noemi Babikova and Nicoline Sartz-Lunde kicked off partner play with a 6-0 shutout of Olivia Corcoran and Lauren Monti on the No. 2 court. Charlotta Buss and Giulia Bizzari clinched the point for the Johnnies with a 6-4 decision over Jenna Stevens and Maddie Hills.
Up 1-0, Buss made it 2-0 with a straight-set triumph over Monti on the No. 3 singles court, 6-0, 6-3. Bizzari got the best of Maddie Hills, 6-2, 6-0, to give the Red Storm a 3-0 advantage. Bizzari is undefeated at 4-0 in solo action this season.
Sandra Dzhambazov widened the lead with a 6-2, 6-3 victory over Valieriia Kornieva at No. 5 singles before Alicia Gomez made it 5-0 on the No. 3 court with a three-set thriller against Jenna Stevens, 2-6, 6-3, 10-4.
Villanova won the No. 1 and 2 courts to close the match.
With the victory, the Johnnies improved to 16-2 all-time against the Wildcats and have won the last four meetings.
St. John's will return to action on Sunday when it travels to College Park, Md., to face Maryland. First serve is set for noon.
