St. John’s Take on Villanova and Maryland This Weekend

The Red Storm will host the Wildcats on Friday and visit the Terrapins on Sunday
QUEENS, N.Y. – The St. John's women's tennis team will host Villanova on Friday before traveling south to College Park, Md., on Sunday to take on Maryland. Friday's first serve from the USTA National Tennis Center is set for 12:15 p.m., while Sunday's contest is set to begin at noon.
The Red Storm's match against Maryland will be streamed on PlaySight and live stats will be available on RedStormSports.com.
The Johnnies are 4-2 this season, most recently falling to FDU last Friday, 4-3. Alicia Gomez has led the Johnnies in her second year in Queens, winning nine total matches so far this season, including both of her contests against the Knights. Gomez has a team-best five singles triumphs and has won four matches in doubles play alongside Victoria Papadopoulou. Giulia Bizzari has three singles wins, while Sandra Dzhambazov, Alexandra Nielsen and Nicoline Sartz-Lunde have each picked up a pair of victories.
Friday's contest against Villanova will be the Red Storm's first BIG EAST matchup of 2025. The Johnnies lead the all-time series against the Wildcats, 15-2, most recently earning a 4-2 victory on April 14, 2024. St. John's has won the last three contests against its conference rivals.
The Wildcats enter Friday's contest 2-6 on the season, dropping their last three contests. Most recently Villanova fell at Howard on Friday, 4-2.
St. John's and Maryland will square off for just the fourth time in program history and the first time since 2022. The Johnnies are 1-2 all-time against the Terrapins, with the lone win coming in 2014.
Maryland started the year 1-3 but has won its last four matches, earning sweeps in all four. Most recently, the Terrapins dominated VCU, 6-0, last Friday. Maryland will host Princeton on Saturday before facing St. John's on Sunday.
