QUEENS, N.Y. – The BIG EAST Champion St. John's men's basketball team (30-4) earned a No. 2 seed in the 2025 NCAA Tournament and will face 15th-seeded Omaha in Providence, R.I.
The Johnnies will tip-off at 9:45 p.m. on Thursday night on CBS. Andrew Catalon and Steve Lappas will serve as the announcers. Evan Washburn will be the sideline reporter.
The Red Storm were placed in the West Region and will play Omaha at Amica Mutual Pavilion. The winner of the first round matchup will meet the winner of seventh-seeded Kansas and 10th seeded Arkansas on Saturday. The No. 2 seed is St. John's highest since it was the same seed after winning its last BIG EAST Tournament Championship in 2000.
The Johnnies have a decorated history in the Big Dance as they will make their 30th appearance, tied for 27th most in NCAA Division I Men's Basketball history. The Red Storm has made nine Sweet 16 appearances, seven trips to the Elite Eight and two Final Four's in 1952 and 1985.
Rick Pitino continues to make history becoming the first coach in Division I Men's Basketball to take six different schools to the NCAA Tournament at Boston University, Providence, Kentucky, Louisville, Iona and now St. John's. The Naismith Memorial Basketball Hall of Famer will make his 24th NCAA Tournament appearance. Pitino's teams have advanced to seven Final Fours and won two National Championships at Kentucky (1996) and Louisville (2013).
For just the third time in its 118-year history, St. John's reached the 30-win mark with a 30-4 overall record. The Johnnies won both the BIG EAST Regular Season and Tournament Championship in the same year for the first time since 1986. The Red Storm lost four games by just a combined seven points and hold a 17-4 record in Quad 1 and 2 games this season.
