Max Amling Named BIG EAST Singles Player of the Week

The Johnnies’ top singles athlete picked up a pair of victories in the team’s wins over Villanova and Saint Joseph’s this week
NEW YORK, N.Y. – Max Amling of the St. John's men's tennis team has been named BIG EAST Singles Player of the Week, as announced by the conference on Monday.
This is Amling's second BIG EAST weekly award of the season, having been named Doubles Team of the Week alongside Armando Sotelo on March 24. Leonardo Mileikowsky and Ignacio Vinas were previously tabbed Singles Player of the Week on Feb. 3 and March 11, respectively.
Amling scored a pair of victories this week, helping the Red Storm earn a 6-0 triumph over Villanova on Wednesday and a 6-1 defeat of Saint Joseph's on Friday.
On Wednesday against the Wildcats, he took down Cooper Gordon at the No. 1 court in straight sets, 6-1, 6-3, before earning a 7-6, 6-2, top-flight win against the Hawks' Justus Agbo.
The Neustadt, Germany native is 13-5 this season with all 18 matches in the first singles position, helping the Red Storm go 21-2, and a perfect 4-0 in BIG EAST play in 2025.
Prior to beginning the BIG EAST Tournament this weekend, the Johnnies will take on Elon tomorrow in South Carolina. First serve from the Camden Tennis Center is set for 5 p.m.
