Serafinko earns her third conference pitcher of the week honor this season
NEW YORK – St. John's softball's Ana Serafinko was named BIG EAST Pitcher of the Week after the Red Storm took two of three games at Creighton last weekend, the conference announced on Monday.
Serafinko appeared in all three games of the series, recording a decision in each with a 2-1 record. The left-hander maintained a 1.98 ERA, allowing just six runs (five earned) on 14 hits while striking out 18 batters in 17.2 innings pitched.
On Thursday, Serafinko started the series by tossing 7.2 scoreless innings of relief while recording nine strikeouts to help the Johnnies to their 1-0 victory over the Bluejays in 13 innings. The Chino Hills, Calif., product drew the start in Saturday's rubber match, allowing just three earned runs and punching out four batters in the 5-4 complete game victory.
The honor marks the third of the season for Serafinko, who earned the conference's pitcher of the week in back-to-back weeks (March 24 and 31) earlier this year. The junior becomes the third Johnnie to take home the award three times in one season, joining fellow teammate Loreley Francia (2025), along with Madison Morris (2019).
Serafinko is amongst the nation's best in strikeouts, ranking third in all of Division I with 228 punchouts this season. In conference play, Serafinko leads the BIG EAST by a wide margin with 111 strikeouts, inching closer to the conference record of 132.
St. John's will be back in action when it opens its final homestand of the season against Hofstra at 3 p.m. on Wednesday at Red Storm Field.
