St. John’s Rallies to Defeat Georgetown, 4-3

The Johnnies trailed 3-2 before completing the comeback against the Hoyas
WASHINGTON, D.C. – The St. John's women's tennis team rallied from down 3-2 to defeat Georgetown on Sunday in Washington, D.C.
The Johnnies (12-5, 5-0 BIG EAST) took the team doubles point before winning three singles contests to take down the Hoyas to improve to 17-0 all-time against their conference rivals.
Noemi Babikova and Alicia Gomez started doubles play with a 6-1 victory over Ashley Kennedy and Katie Garofolo-Ro on the No. 1 court and Alexandra Nielsen partnered with Nicoline Sartz-Lunde to clinch the team point, taking down Natasha Kavarana and Carolyn Schaefer, 6-2.
With St. John's up 1-0 heading into singles action, the Hoyas earned a win on the No. 2 court to even the score at 1-1 but Charlotta Buss put the visitors back in front with a 6-4, 6-4 takedown of Natasha Karvana on the No. 4 court.
Georgetown took matches on the No. 3 and No. 1 court to go up 3-2. Sandra Dzhambazov evened the match at 3-3 by defeating Paige Gilbert, 6-4, 6-3 at No. 5 singles, setting up a winner-take-all match on the No. 6 court between Gomez and Schaefer. Gomez earned a 6-4 win in the first game before grinding out a 7-5 decision in the second game to finish off the comeback and give the Red Storm its fifth BIG EAST victory of the season.
St. John's will return to action on Thursday when it heads to West Long Branch, N.J., for a 3 p.m. showdown against Monmouth.
