NEW YORK – St. John's baseball first baseman Jared Beebe was selected as the BIG EAST Player of the Week, the conference office announced on Monday afternoon.
Beebe, who has notched his first-ever BIG EAST honor, exploded for a .625/.667/1.000 slash line in the Johnnies 3-1 week against Washington and Seton Hall. The senior led the Red Storm with 10 hits, including three doubles and a home run and eight runs scored. He also tacked on four RBIs a walk and a hit-by-pitch last week.
The Atco, N.J., native started his week by logging three hits, including his first home run of the year, alongside three scores and two RBIs at Jack Kaiser Stadium against Washington on Tuesday.
Beebe continued to dominate in the Red Storm's BIG EAST opening sweep over Seton Hall last weekend. The standout infielder had himself a day in the team's series opener on Friday, going 4-for-5 at the plate with three doubles, three runs scored and two RBIs.
He followed it up with a hit and a score in the program's 3-2 win in game one of Sunday's doubleheader against the Pirates. The first baseman closed out the team's first series of conference play by contributing a pair of hits and a run, helping St. John's secure the sweep with a 5-4 victory.
On the season, Beebe is slashing .339/.421/.518, with 38 hits, a team-best 11 doubles, three triples, a home run, 22 runs scored and 21 RBIs across 28 starts at first base.
The honor marks St. John's fifth BIG EAST recognition of the year. Jace Jeremiah was previously named the league's player of the week, while Jayder Raifstanger, Shaun McMillan and Tyler Longoria have all been named to the league's honor roll this season.
Beebe and the Red Storm will be back in action tomorrow when they head to New Rochelle, N.Y., to take on Iona. First pitch from City Park is slated for 3 p.m.
