During its BIG EAST opener against Villanova on Friday, the St. John's Volleyball program and athletic department will honor the memory of double alumnus Derek "DJ" Southerland, who passed away in April. Southerland was a staple at St. John's athletic events across campus, a former softball team manager and SJU-TV production team member. The volleyball program will honor his memory before the match and hand out 500 commemorative rally towels.
The Red Storm will also unveil the 2024 National Invitation Volleyball Championship (NIVC) Fab Four banner prior to Friday's match. Last season, St. John's posted the best postseason finish in a national tournament in program history.
On Sept. 27, the Red Storm welcomes Georgetown for Club Volleyball Night in celebration of youth programs from all around the Greater New York Metropolitan Area. Junior Johnnies Kids Club members are also encouraged to attend and pick-up their member prize packs in the Carnesecca Arena lobby.
St. John's opens a three-match homestand on Oct. 10 against DePaul with International Volleyball Night. Students are encouraged to celebrate their cultures by decking out the crowd with flags from nations all over the globe.
On Oct. 11, the Red Storm faces Marquette in its annual Pink Game, presented by Main Street Radiology. First serve is set for 5 p.m. and the first 300 fans will receive a "One Storm. One Cause." t-shirt.
The homestand concludes on Oct. 14 when St. John's meets Seton Hall at noon for Field Trip Day, as local schools will fill Carnesecca to root on the Red Storm against the Pirates.
On Oct. 31, the Red Storm hosts UConn at 7 p.m. for Halloween Night. Fans are encouraged to dress up for a costume contest, with candy prizes awarded.
The following day, St. John's welcomes back former players for Alumni Day while also hosting its second Camper Reunion of the season. Students in attendance will be entered into a raffle for two tickets to the men's basketball game against Alabama on Nov. 8 at Madison Square Garden.
The promotional calendar concludes on Nov. 14 with Senior Night against Creighton. Festivities begin prior to first serve, with St. John's RedZone sponsoring a special giveaway for fans.
