St. John’s Continues Homestand against Rhode Island on Monday Night

Red Storm is coming off a pair of draws against top-five opponents
QUEENS, N.Y.– The St. John's Men's Soccer team (2-1-2, 0-0-0 BIG EAST) will continue its longest homestand of the season on Monday night when it welcomes Rhode Island (0-3-1, 0-0-0 Atlantic-10) for a 7 p.m. contest at Cox Family Field at Belson Stadium.
The Red Storm enters match after a pair of draws last week against a pair of opponents ranked top-five nationally. The Johnnies played then-No. 5 Wake Forest to a 0-0 tie before knotting the score with the No. 2 Marshall on Friday night, 1-1. The draw against the Thundering Herd marked the program's highest ranked result since it tied with then-No. 2 Boston College on Sept. 7, 2008.

Jeremy Sharp recorded his first goal in nearly two years on Friday night sending home a line drive in the 72nd minute to tie No. 2 Marshall. The goal came off an assist from Igor Goncalves just 10 seconds after the Johnnies went a man-up due to a Thundering Herd straight red card.
Guilherme Gomes remains one of the nation's statistical leaders offensively in goals (5th with 4) and points (14th with 8) as of Sept. 4. The reigning TopDrawer Soccer National Player of the Week became the second player in St. John's men's soccer history to record four goals in a game in a 5-0 victory over New Hampshire on Aug. 28.
Alec McLachlan, the reigning BIG EAST Goalkeeper of the Week has been stellar between the pipes so far this season. The senior has tallied three shutouts and holds a 0.60 GAA through five matches.
The two programs will meet for the fifth time on Monday and opened up the 2024 campaign against one another with Rhode Island taking a 2-0 decision in Kingston.
The Rams will enter seeking their first win of the season with an 0-3-1 mark on the year. In its last contest, URI fell at UAlbany, 3-0, on Friday night.
Following Monday's contest, St. John's will continue its five-match homestand on Thursday night when it hosts FDU for a 7 p.m. kick-off.
