Red Storm to make short trip to LIU
QUEENS, N.Y. – The St. John's cross country team will toe the line for the first time in nearly a month this weekend at the 2026 Metropolitan Cross Country Championship on Saturday morning at 10 a.m.
The Red Storm was previously scheduled to race at the Golden Eagle Invitational on Saturday, Sept. 26, the meet was canceled due to the nor'easter that saw high winds and heavy rain across the Northeast corridor of the country.
Head Coach Elliott Blount and his team will look to continue their streak of placing in the top four as a team for the sixth straight season. Last year St. John's finished fourth, and since 2021 the Red Storm have secured four podium finishes as a team. In 2023 Blount and his squad claimed the team title.
St. John's began the 2026 season at the 31st Annual Br. John "Paddy" Doyle Iona Meet of Champions and claimed a pair of top-10 individual finishes and placed fourth as a team in a field of six.
Naiara Garcia-Moreno was the top harrier for the Johnnies, placing third overall with a time of 19-minutes, 4.30 seconds. Attoya Harvey followed closely behind her teammate with a time of 19:39.30 to finish in eighth place.
Following this weekend, the Johnnies turn their attention to the ECAC Cross Country Championships at Bethpage State Park on Saturday, Oct. 17.
