Bower and the Red Storm defense post second consecutive clean sheet

QUEENS, N.Y. – The St. John's women's soccer team battled Creighton to a scoreless draw on Saturday night at Cox Family Field at Belson Stadium.

With the result, the Red Storm moved to 3-5-3 overall and 0-1-2 in BIG EAST play, while the Bluejays now sit at 4-4-3 on the year with an identical 0-1-2 conference mark. St. John's has earned points in back-to-back conference matches.

Kayla Bower recorded three saves to register her second straight clean sheet and fifth of the season. Her five shutouts this season have already surpassed her previous single-season career high of four, set in 2025, while her 0.83 goals-against average and .813 save percentage are also the best marks of her career.

The Red Storm put four of its six attempts on target, led by Janelle Sylvestre, who registered two shots on goal. Nora Basile added two attempts with one on frame, while Julianna Bivona also put an attempt on target. Creighton finished with a 17-6 advantage in total shots, but only three of the Bluejays' attempts found the target.

Creighton generated the first opportunities of the evening before Bower made her first stop on Anna Bragg in the ninth minute. St. John's responded less than two minutes later when Basile forced Creighton's goalkeeper into a save. The junior generated another chance moments later, but her second attempt was blocked as the two sides eventually entered the break scoreless.

The Bluejays increased its pressure after halftime, but the St. John's backline held firm behind a pair of saves from Bower. The Johnnies created chances of their own, with Bivona putting an attempt on frame in the 68th minute. The Johnnies mounted one final surge in the closing moments, as Sylvestre registered two shots on goal in the final minute, but both were turned aside as the two sides settled for a scoreless draw.

The Red Storm will travel to Butler on Oct. 7 for a 7 p.m. kickoff at Bud and Jackie Sellick Bowl.
