Zuby Ejiofor Tabbed Metropolitan Basketball Association Player of the Week

Ejiofor led the Red Storm to a pair of wins over DePaul and then No. 3/3 UConn last week
QUEENS, N.Y. - St. John's men's basketball standout Zuby Ejiofor was tabbed the Metropolitan Basketball Writers' Association (MBWA) Player of the Week, the organization announced on Tuesday.
Ejiofor continues to rack up accolades after averaging 18.5 points, 9.5 rebounds, 5.5 assists and 2.0 blocks per game last week in wins over DePaul and then-No. 3/3 UConn. Ejiofor led all players in scoring, rebounding and assists in both games last week. The 6-foot-9 forward was named NCAA March Madness Player of the Week, ESPN's Dick Vitale's National Player of the Week, a BIG EAST Weekly Honor Roll recipient and now MET Player of the Week.
In the 68-56 win over DePaul in Chicago, Ejiofor filled the box score with 16 points, nine boards and four assists at Wintrust Arena. The Garland, Texas native followed it up with a memorable performance in the 81-72 triumph over the Huskies, the program's highest ranked victory at MSG in 15 years. The team captain posted 21 points, 10 boards, seven helpers, three blocks and two steals in the marquee win.
After his second-straight 20-point effort finishing with 25 points on Monday night's 87-82 overtime win against Xavier. Ejiofor is now averaging 16.3 points, 7.5 rebounds, 3.5 assists and 2.0 blocks per game. The senior is the only player in NCAA Division I high major basketball to rank top-10 in his conference in all four statistical categories.
Ejiofor's MBWA Player of the Week honor marks the first of his career. As a junior, he was tabbed an All-MET First Team selection. Dillon Mitchell earned MET Player of the Week honors on Jan. 27.
No. 17/17 St. John's will be back in action on Saturday at Providence at 1 p.m. at Amica Mutual Pavilion on TNT and truTV.
