Red Storm Toss Pair of Shutouts on Day Two of The Spring Games

Complete-game shutouts power St. John’s to wins over Southern Mississippi and Bethune-Cookman
LEESBURG, Fla. — The St. John's softball team remained unbeaten at The Spring Games on Saturday, shutting out Southern Mississippi, 4-0, and edging Bethune-Cookman, 1-0, at Sleepy Hollow Complex.
The Red Storm (8-1, 0-0 BIG EAST) relied on dominant pitching and timely hitting to secure the sweep, receiving complete-game shutouts from Ana Serafinko and Loreley Francia while accumulating 17 hits across the doubleheader.
Serafinko struck out 11 batters in seven scoreless innings against Southern Mississippi, allowing juts six hits in the win. Francia followed with a four-hit shutout in the nightcap, punching out six to earn the victory. Jess Bianco drove in three runs in the opener, while Cassidy Stouffer provided the lone tally against Bethune-Cookman with an inside-the-park solo home run.
Game 1: St. John's 4, Southern Mississippi 0
St. John's opened Saturday with a 4-0 victory over Southern Mississippi behind a complete game from Serafinko.
The senior scattered six hits across seven innings while striking out 11 to earn her third win of the season.
Bianco paced the offense with a 2-for-3 performance, including a triple and three RBIs. Ava Fierst added two hits and scored twice as the Red Storm collected nine hits in the win.
The Johnnies broke through in the third inning when Fierst doubled and later scored on a single from Bianco to take a 1-0 lead. St. John's extended its advantage in the fourth after Fierst reached home and Bianco roped a two-run triple to left-center to make it 3-0.
The Red Storm added an insurance run in the sixth when Stouffer delivered an RBI single to push the lead to 4-0. Serafinko closed the contest by striking out two in the seventh to complete the shutout, her second of the 2026 campaign.
Game 2: St. John's 1, Bethune-Cookman 0
St. John's secured a 1-0 victory over Bethune-Cookman in the nightcap behind a complete-game performance from Francia.
The senior allowed just four hits and struck out six over 7.0 innings to record the win.
Stouffer supplied the lone run of the contest with an inside-the-park solo homer in the bottom of the fourth frame. The Red Storm collected eight hits, including two from Gia Fernandez.
After three scoreless innings, Stouffer broke the tie with a drive to right field to give St. John's a 1-0 advantage.
Francia worked through traffic in the fifth and sixth innings before retiring the side in the seventh to preserve the shutout and complete the sweep. The victory marked Francia's first shutout of her senior season and the Johnnies' third overall of the 2026 campaign.
St. John's returns to action Sunday morning against Southern Mississippi. First pitch at Sleepy Hollow Complex is set for 10 a.m. to conclude play at The Spring Games.
