Senior outfielder posted .357 batting average on opening weekend
NEW YORK – St. John's baseball senior outfielder Jon LeGrande earned a spot on the BIG EAST Weekly Honor Roll, the conference office announced Monday.
LeGrande finished the week 4-for-14, scoring three runs while driving in four, including a home run and a double during the opening weekend of the 2026 campaign. The senior posted a .357 batting average with a .444 on-base percentage and an impressive .643 slugging percentage while leading the team with four stolen bases.
The Bronx native opened the season in style at the Stetson Tournament, launching a two-run shot to deep right field against Ball State on Friday in the season-opening setback.
He capped the weekend with a strong performance in the tournament finale, helping the Red Storm secure an 11-7 victory over host Stetson. LeGrande went 1-for-3, scored twice, stole two bases and delivered an RBI double to lift St. John's to its first win of the season.
LeGrande earned his first accolade of the year after being named to the Preseason All-BIG EAST Team prior to the start of the 2026 campaign. Last year, the All-BIG EAST First Team honoree was named to the league's weekly honor roll on May 5, 2025.
LeGrande and the Red Storm will travel to Arizona State for a three-game series beginning on Friday Feb. 20. First pitch is scheduled for 8:30 p.m. ET on ESPN+.
