Red Storm is riding a five-game win streak against the Pirates
QUEENS, N.Y. (April 1, 2026) – The St. John's baseball team is set to begin BIG EAST action this weekend on the road in South Orange, N.J., taking on rival Seton Hall in a three-game set.
Game one on Thursday at Mike Sheppard, Sr. Stadium at Owen T. Carroll Field is set for 1 p.m. The two teams will play a doubleheader on Saturday, beginning at 12 p.m., with the series finale to follow. Saturday's double feature will be available to stream on ESPN+.
St. John's (11-17) enters the contest taking a convincing 11-2 victory over Wagner on Tuesday, putting together a complete performance on both sides of the diamond.
Jon LeGrande led the way with a 3-for-5 outing, three RBIs, a home run, two runs and a stolen base, while Jayder Raifstanger added three hits as well. Shaun McMillan, Dylan Fitzsimmons and Lewis Rodriguez each registered two hits, with Fitzsimmons legging out his second triple of the season. St. John's jumped out to an early lead and broke the game open in the middle innings with a five-run fifth, cruising the rest of the way. On the mound, Thomas Harding earned the win with a scoreless start, and the bullpen combined for a strong effort to limit Wagner to just two runs and close out the victory.
As a team, St. John's boasts a .976 fielding percentage, leading the BIG EAST and 58th nationally. Six everyday starters hold a fielding percentage of .975 or better, which are led by Fitzsimmons with a perfect 1.000 with 57 put outs. The Denville, N.J. native flashed his defensive prowess on Tuesday, throwing out a runner trying to tag up from third to get out of the inning.
Individually, Liam O'Leary has been a steady presence on the mound, posting a 2.95 ERA over seven starts, good for second in the BIG EAST. Adam Agresti has fueled the offense with nine home runs, ranking third in the BIG EAST while carrying a .624 slugging percentage, good enough for fifth in the league. Fitzsimmons is tied for second in the conference with a pair of triples and LeGrande ranks third in the league in stolen bases with 13. Out of the bullpen, Dylan Johnson has been one of the most consistent relievers for the Johnnies. The senior has recorded a pair of saves, which ranks tied for fifth in the BIG EAST.
Seton Hall (11-9) is St. John's most frequently played opponent, as the BIG EAST rivals will square off for the 172nd time on Thursday, as the Red Storm holds a 94-77 advantage. The
Johnnies are 7-3 in the last 10 meetings with The Hall, and 4-1 in the last five contests in South Orange. Last season, the two teams met for a three-game series in Queens, where the St.
