NEW YORK — Following a 4-1 week, St. John's softball's Ana Serafinko was named BIG EAST Pitcher of the Week for the second time this season, the conference announced Monday.
Serafinko's sixth career pitcher of the week nod comes after the Chino Hills, Calif., native led the Red Storm to an undefeated weekend, picking up four total victories over Army and Harvard. Her placement marks the fifth straight week of conference recognition for the Red Storm.
In the top of the second inning in the Johnnies' 7-1 win over Army on March 14, Serafinko recorded her 590th career strikeout, setting a new St. John's program record by passing Tori Free's previous record. The senior added a season-high 15 strikeouts, allowing just one run and two hits in a complete-game effort to round out the historic performance.
Later that day, Serafinko recorded her second save of the season, entering and striking out two in the top of the seventh inning to secure the Red Storm's 3-2 win over Harvard.
To close out the week of competition, Serafinko pitched her 10th complete game of the season, which ranks 5th in NCAA Division I, in a 7-4 triumph over Harvard on March 15. The southpaw picked up another 10 strikeouts, giving her 141 on the year, which is the second most in NCAA Division I.
Serafinko and the Johnnies return to action in the Bronx for a midweek matchup at Fordham on March 18 at 3 p.m. The contest will be broadcast on ESPN+ with live stats available on RedStormSports.com
