Junior pitcher held UT Arlington to one run over 8.0 innings on the bump on Friday
NEW YORK – St. John's baseball junior pitcher Liam O'Leary earned a spot on the BIG EAST Weekly Honor Roll, the conference office announced Monday.
O'Leary took the mound for the series-opening 8-1 victory at UT Arlington on Friday, March 20. The junior pitched 8.0 innings, allowing just one run on five hits while striking out two on 102 pitches, owning a 2.39 ERA and earning the win.
Through six starts this season, O'Leary has logged 37.2 innings with a 2.39 ERA, ranking second in the conference and 85th nationally. The Souderton, Pa., native leads the Johnnie pitching staff with 24 strikeouts, and opposing hitters are batting just .246 against him.
The righty captured his first weekly honor by the BIG EAST this year. The transfer is the fourth player to be recognized by the league this season, joining teammates Jon LeGrande, Evan Chaffee and last week's BIG EAST Player of the Week selection Adam Agresti.
O'Leary and the Red Storm will host FDU on Tuesday, for a midweek matchup. First pitch at Jack Kaiser Stadium is scheduled for 3:00 p.m. on ESPN+.
