Kayla Bower and Telma Steindórsdóttir Named to BIG EAST Weekly Honor Roll

The defensive duo made the Weekly Honor Roll after a 1-0-1 week for the Red Storm
NEW YORK – St. John's women's soccer goalkeeper Kayla Bower and defender Telma Steindórsdóttir were tabbed to the BIG EAST Weekly Honor Roll on Monday.
Steindórsdóttir made an impact on both ends of the pitch, playing all 180 minutes during the Red Storm's unbeaten week.
The junior opened the scoring against Towson in the 39th minute, finishing a cross through traffic for her second career goal. The Icelander followed that performance by helping anchor a St. John's back line that held Columbia scoreless to secure the Red Storm's first clean sheet of the season.
Bower was steady between the pipes throughout the week, making six saves and allowing just one goal across 180 minutes of action.
The graduate student made three stops to earn her first victory of the season against Towson before recording three more saves in a shutout at Columbia. Bower came up with a diving stop in the closing minutes against the Lions to preserve the scoreless draw and finished the week with a 0.50 goals-against average and an .857 save percentage.
The Lincoln Park, N.J., native is ranked first in the conference, averaging 4.33 saves per game (102th nationally) and total saves with 13 (45th nationally).
Bower and Steindórsdóttir are the first two St. John's players to be honored by the BIG EAST this season.
