St. John’s Sits in Second Place After Day One at Doc Gimmler

Red Storm shot 3-under as a team through 36 holes
QUEENS, N.Y. – The St. John's men's golf team kicked off the 2026-27 campaign in impressive fashion on Saturday at its home tournament, The Doc Gimmler. The Red Storm sit in second place after two rounds of action carding a 3-under, 557, at Bethpage State Park Red Course
The Johnnies led after the opening round finishing with a 5-under, 277. The Red Storm posted a 2-over, 282, on Saturday afternoon to trail Yale by 10 strokes heading into tomorrow's final round. The Bulldogs caught fire shooting 13-under, 267, over the final 18 holes of action on Long Island.
All five Red Storm golfers shot even or under par in at least one of the two rounds in Farmingdale. Two underclassmen paced the Johnnies by sitting inside the top-eight on the leaderboard.
In his collegiate debut, Josh Yan impressed going under par in both rounds on a sunny Saturday at Bethpage. The freshman sits in fourth place at 3-under, 137 (69-68) and finished with seven birdies.
Eli Weidmann shot the low round of the day in the morning session tallying a 3-under, 67. The sophomore finished a 1-under, 139. Max McColgan sits tied for 15th place after logging a 1-over, 141.
The final round of The Doc Gimmler is expected to tee off tomorrow morning at 7:30 a.m. Live results will be available in SCOREBOARD.
