Camron Boumsong tallied a penalty kick goal on Tuesday night

WILMINGTON, N.C. (Sept. 22, 2026) – The St. John's men's soccer team (4-4-0, 1-0-0 BIG EAST) dropped a non-conference road contest to RV UNC Wilmington (6-1-1, 3-0-0 CAA) on Tuesday night, 3-1.

The Johnnies took an early lead before the Seahawks responded with three unanswered goals to win Tuesday's non-conference matchup at UNCW Soccer Stadium. Christian Acevedo led the effort for UNCW logging a brace.

Camron Boumsong in his 39^th appearance for the program scored his first ever goal in a St. John's uniform. The senior tucked home a strike from the penalty spot for his fourth career goal. The Paris native scored three times while at Rutgers last season.

The Red Storm have cashed in on 15 consecutive penalty kicks, dating back to Sept. 8, 2023 in a win over Saint Peter's. The Johnnies have not missed from penalty spot in 1,110 days.

Andrew Porucznik, Issa Atcha Yaya and Zander Romero all tied for the mead with two shots apiece. Nick Carrascosa made his collegiate debut totaling 16 minutes in Wilmington.

In the 10^th minute, Porucznik was taken down hard in the right side of the 18-yard box to setup a penalty kick opportunity for the Red Storm. Boumsong stepped up the spot and buried a line drive strike into the left side of the net to put the Johnnies ahead, 1-0.

The Seahawks retaliated quickly knotting the scoreline exactly three minutes later, 1-1. Christian Acevedo went bar down on a free kick to level the game in the 13^th minute.

Later in the opening stanza, Issa Atcha Yaya squeaked past a pair of Seahawks' defenders and had a look on goal that deflected just past the right post.

As the seconds wound down in the first half, UNC Wilmington earned a corner kick. The Seahawks played it long as Cameron Keay headed it back into the mixer. Andrew Hornada tapped a header to Gavin Carmichael for the tally with just three seconds remaining to take a 2-1 advantage into the locker room.

In the latter half, the Johnnies came out generating chances in their attacking third. Porucznik battled for possession and laid a pass off to Travis Thompson. The junior's shot attempt steered just wide. The Red Storm created another opportunity off a corner kick. Ivar Na Aga flicked a header into the center of the six-yard box the was headed just outside the net by a UNCW defender.

UNCW extended its lead in the 61^st minute as Acevedo tucked home the loose ball to bring the home side's advantage to two, 3-1.

Porucznik had a breakaway one-on-one opportunity in the 80^th minute. The sophomore attempted to put on past the Seahawks' goaltender Trey Smiley, who pushed the attempt aside. The Seahawks held on in the final 10 minutes for the victory.

On Saturday, St. John's will continue BIG EAST action when it hosts longtime rival UConn for a 7 p.m. start at Cox Family Field at Belson Stadium.
