The Red Storm returns home to host UConn on Wednesday

VILLANOVA, Pa. – The St. John's women's soccer team fell to Villanova, 2-0, in its BIG EAST opener on Saturday afternoon at Higgins Soccer Complex.

The Wildcats added one goal in each half to start off league play with a home victory on a windy Saturday in Pennsylvania.

Juliana Dane led St. John's with two shots, marking her fourth multi-shot performance of the season. The senior has already registered a career-high 10 attempts through nine matches, surpassing her previous single-season best of seven set in 2024.

Daisy Burt recorded the Red Storm's lone shot on goal after entering in the second half, while four other Johnnies registered attempts. Maya Terwilliger made her first appearance and start of the 2026 campaign, logging 64 minutes.

Kayla Bower made four saves over the full 90 minutes. Bower has now recorded 31 stops through nine matches this season, bringing her career total to 152 saves across 39 appearances.

St. John's and Villanova battled through the opening stages before the Wildcats broke the scoreless tie in the 27th minute. Schuler and Dane each registered an attempt for the Johnnies in the first 45 minutes, but the Wildcats carried the one-goal advantage into the break.

The Red Storm increased its offensive pressure in the second half, registering five shots after the break. Villanova doubled its advantage in the 67th minute on a goal by Dez Zapata. Daisy Burt recorded the Johnnies' lone shot on goal as St. John's continued to push offensively, but the Wildcats kept the Red Storm off the board to secure the 2-0 decision.

The Red Storm will return home on Sept. 30 to host UConn for Fraternity and Sorority night at 7 p.m.
