The Red Storm face the Huskies for the 32nd time on Wednesday night
QUEENS, N.Y. – The St. John's women's soccer team will begin a two-game home stand on Wednesday night to host UConn at Cox Family Field at Belson Stadium.
Kick-off is set for 7 p.m. with Kevin Connelly and Nick DeLuca on the call in Queens. Fans can tune into the contest on ESPN+.
St. John's (3-5-1, 0-1-0 BIG EAST) opened conference play with a 2-0 setback at Villanova on Saturday afternoon. The Wildcats scored once in each half, breaking through in the 27th minute before adding an insurance tally in the 67th. Juliana Dane led the Red Storm with two shots, while Daisy Burt registered the Johnnies' lone attempt on target. St. John's generated five of its seven shots after halftime, continuing its trend of increased offensive production in the second half.
Through nine matches, St. John's has received scoring contributions from throughout its lineup, with seven different players accounting for the team's seven goals. Nora Basile leads the Johnnies with three points and a team-high 17 shots, while Carly Schuler ranks second with 13 attempts in seven appearances.
Dane has also become increasingly involved in the attack, recording a career-high 10 shots and four multi-shot performances this season. The senior has already surpassed her previous single-season best of seven attempts, set in 2024.
The Red Storm has been particularly active after halftime, registering 50 of its 85 shots and five of its seven goals in the second half. St. John's and its opponents are even with 85 total shots apiece through nine contests, while the Johnnies hold a 38-34 advantage in corner kicks.
Defensively, Kayla Bower has totaled 31 saves and three clean sheets through nine appearances while posting a 1.01 goals-against average and a .775 save percentage. The graduate student netminder made four stops against Villanova to raise her career total to 152 saves across 39 appearances.
Julianna Bivona has provided consistency along the back line, starting all nine matches and playing every minute of the season for a team that has conceded just nine goals through nine contests. The Red Storm owns a 1.00 team goals-against average, which ranks sixth in the BIG EAST.
