Cory Hubbard
- Title:
- Assistant Coach
Cory Hubbard enters his second season as an assistant coach for the St. John’s men’s tennis team after joining the staff in Spring 2016.
Hubbard enjoyed immediate success with the Red Storm as the Johnnies went on to set a program record for wins with 21 during their 2016 campaign. As part of these winning ways, Hubbard assisted Rebhuhn in guiding the Red Storm to its third-straight BIG EAST Championship Title and third-straight NCAA Tournament berth. Hubbard was honored by the BIG EAST Conference for this hard work, as he and Rebhuhn were named the BIG EAST Coaching Staff of the Year. Other notable highlights from Hubbard’s first season include that the Red Storm was ranked as high as No. 52 in the nation and earned one of its biggest wins in program history on Feb. 26, when the Johnnies knocked off No. 32 Harvard, 4-3.
A native of Rockwall, Texas, Hubbard had a standout career as a student-athlete for Texas A&M University from 1996-2000. He helped lead the Aggies to two Big 12 Titles as well as two NCAA Tournament Round of 16 appearances. Hubbard was a two-time Big 12 Conference All-Athletic Academic First Team honoree. He also was awarded the inaugural Aggie Heart Award, which recognizes the senior who displays the most effort, determination, and leadership for his team on and off the court.
Hubbard started his coaching career as an assistant for A&M in 2000, before becoming an active tennis professional. In 2003, Hubbard joined Texas Christian University as an assistant coach and helped guide them to three-consecutive NCAA Tournaments. The Horned Frogs were ranked as high as No. 5 in the country and reached the Round of 16 in 2004. After TCU, he became the associate head coach at the University of Arizona.
“Hubbard is a huge addition to my staff having been a head coach for more than six years and an assistant coach at two top programs, TCU and Arizona,” said Head Coach Eric Rebhuhn.
Hubbard became the head coach at Fordham University in 2011 and the following season the program made its first-ever appearance in the Atlantic 10 quarterfinals. The squad improved by 14 wins from the previous year. Fourteen student-athletes received academic honors during his tenure at Fordham.
Before joining St. John’s staff, Hubbard was the Director of Tennis at Monmouth University and took the Hawks to the MAAC conference finals in 2014 and 2015. The team won 15 matches for two-consecutive seasons and was the MAAC regular season champion in 2015.
Hubbard also served as the director of the USTA High Performance Elite Training Program at the John McEnroe Tennis Academy. He graduated from Texas A&M in 2000 with a bachelor’s degree in marketing.
