A recent St. John’s graduate and team captain Athina Sofroniou remains as part of the program and joined the St. John’s Women’s Soccer staff as a Student Assistant Coach in the summer of 2025.
Sofroniou spent four years as an integral part of the Red Storm backline from 2021-24 and made 70 appearances and 47 starts. The defender started each of the final 42 games of her collegiate career and played every possible minute during the 2024 campaign. A two-time BIG EAST Defensive Player of the Week and an all-league freshmen team selection in 2021, Sofroniou finished her career with four goals and five assists (13 points).
Sofroniou is a native of Dix Hills, N.Y. and attended Half Hollow Hills East High School on Long Island.
