EIGHT IS GREAT VOLLEYBALL WINS EIGHTH STRAIGHT

The Red Storm improved to 15-3 with the victory, while the Rams fell to 3-8.
After taking the first game 15-11, the Rams stepped it up a notch, tallying 14 kills to only five errors in the second game to even the match at 1-1. That ended St. Johns winning streak of 22 straight games dating back to September 16. After a 10-minute intermission, the Storm came out with a renewed sense of determination and cruised in games three and four, 15-3 and 15-5. In those final two games, the Storm put down 26 kills while committing only two hitting errors, compared to 30 kills and 16 errors in the first two games.
Junior Kristy Mercein (East Meadow, N.Y./East Meadow) also collected 14 kills to go along with nine digs, while freshman Rosalyn Dang (Honolulu, Hawaii/Punahou) tallied a match-high 15 digs with eight kills. Freshman Robyn Kurasaki (Milliani, Hawaii/Maryknoll) amassed 41 assists, six digs and a pair of block assists.
This match also marked the final tuneup for the Storm before they open their BIG EAST season this weekend. St. Johns travels to New Jersey for a pair of conference games, the first against Rutgers on Friday and 7:00 followed by a match at Seton Hall on Sunday at 1:00.
