Red Storm Fall to Seton Hall, 3-0

The match began with Seton Hall in control. SJU trailed the entire first game, before a kill by freshman Jennifer Emelogu (Austin, Texas) put the Red Storm up 24-23. St. Johns was unable to capitalize on this rebound and fell 27-30 in an evenly matched first game.
Seton Hall took the second game (29-31) behind the play of Jackie Neely and Kari Belin, who each recorded five kills. The Pirates notched 21 kills to the Red Storms 11 in the second game.
The Pirates led the third game 27-16 when the Red Storm attempted a comeback. SJU went on a 5-2 run to put the score at 21-29. The Red Storm would fight off Seton Halls match point three times. Junior Meaghan Creedon (Rohnert Park, Calif.) notched two kills and sophomore Rosalyn Dang (Punahou, Hawaii) recorded one, making the score 24-29. Seton Halls Alyson Furch notched the Pirates final kill for the game and match.
The Red Storm were led by Dang with nine kills and 11 digs. Sophomore setter Robyn Kurasaki (Milliani, Hawaii) recorded a team-high 14 digs and added 35 assists. Senior captain Kristy Mercein (East Meadow, N.Y.) notched eight kills and 11 digs on the day. Mercein, who now has 816 career kills, moved ahead of Aleeza Miller 01 into sixth place on St. Johns all-time career kills list.
Jackie Neely (14 kills, 11 digs) and Jenna Meyers (12 kills, 15 digs) led the Seton Hall attack. Setter Shawn McDonald dished out 43 assists, 13 digs and added six kills to the Pirates win.
The Red Storm conclude their non-conference schedule this Wednesday at Alumni Hall with a match versus Siena College at 7:30pm.
