C of C Rallies Past St. John's, 5-4

Trailing 4-2 with none on and two outs in the eighth inning, the Cougars (5-4) scored three times to pull out its third one-run victory over the Red Storm (0-5) in as many meetings. Justin Branson singled, Brett Spivey walked and Marmol followed with a slicing triple down the right field line tying the game at 4-4. Alden followed with a single to center scoring Marmol for the final margin.
The Red Storm scored three times in the top of the eighth to take a 4-2 lead. Junior outfielder Billy Grasier (Jericho, N.Y./Miller Place) led off with a single and moved to second on a bunt single by freshman Josh Stewart (Bloomsburg, Pa./Bloomsburg). Charlie Bilezikjian (Staten Island, N.Y./Port Richmond), who began the game in center field and later came in to pitch, tied it with an RBI single to center, scoring Grasier. A sacrifice bunt by senior Chris Fallon (Bayonne, N.J./Bayonne) moved the runneres up and St. John's took a 4-2 lead when sophomore Chad Cambra (Taunton, Mass./Coyle & Cassidy) singled through the left side.
Charleston scored single runs in the first and second innings to take a 2-0 lead, before the Red Storm cut the margin to 2-1 in the third inning.
Andy Hutchings (1-0) picked up the win in relief allowing a hit and a walk with a strikeout in 1 2/3 innings of work. Bilezikjian (0-1) suffered the loss allowing a run on two hits in 1/3 of an inning.
Billy Grasier had two hits and scored two runs for St. John's, while senior catcher Eric Potts (Rutherford, N.J./St. Mary's) added two singles. Freshman Ryan Kyle (Kingsville, Md./Calvert Hall) pitched well in his first collegiate start, throwing 3.2 innings, allowing one earned run on three hits.
