Track & Field Takes Second at Metropolitan Championships

Sophomore Tiehise Shell (Hollis, N.Y.) won the 400m dash in a time of 56.84. Senior Dinah Mensah (Bronx, N.Y.) took the 800m race with a 2:10.45 mark. Freshman Jen Lebowitz (Long Beach, N.Y.) captured two Metropolitan crowns. In the 5000, Lebowitz clocked an 18:32.83 for the win. Lebowitz won the 10,000m in a time of 38:56.59. Junior Lynn Medjuck (Lindenhurst, N.Y.) managed a win in the steeplechase with a 11:50.90 mark. Graduate student Michelle Hickman also won two Met titles. Hickmans 5.78m in the long jump and 12.51m in the triple jump were enough for the championships. Throwers Sheba George (Brooklyn, N.Y.) and Nicola Coffey (Meath, Ireland) each added another title to their resume. George took the discus championship with a 47.68m performance. With a 52.74m mark, Coffey won the hammer title.
For the men, sophomore Mariah Mauer (Kingston, N.Y.) took home the triple jump championship with a 13.87m performance. Sophomore Dietrech Washington (Nashau, N.H.) won the decathlon crown, earning 5628 points.
The Red Storm returns to action May 18 when they travel to Princeton, N.J. for the ECAC and IC4A Championships.
