Coffey and Hickman Capture ECAC Titles

Nicola Coffey (Meath, Ireland) added another title to her resume this weekend. Coffey, the reigning BIG EAST hammer throw champion, took the ECAC hammer championship with a 57.72m mark. Though an NCAA provisional qualifying mark, the 18904.00 performance was just off her record setting 19110.00 mark at BIG EAST. In the same event, teammate Sheba George (Brooklyn, N.Y.) placed ninth with a 51.50m mark. George, the reigning BIG EAST discus champion, took third place in the ECAC discus with a 46.66m performance. George, also the reigning ECAC champion in the weight throw, placed seventh in the shot put with a mark of 13.95m.
Michelle Hickman, new to the team this semester, captured the triple jump championship with an NCAA provisional qualifying mark of 13.14m. Hickman was the only woman in the competition to jump over 13 meters. For her championship performance, Hickman was named to the All-East team.
Tiehise Shell (Hollis, N.Y.) took home two sixth place finishes at the ECAC championships. In the 200m dash, Shell finished sixth in a time of 24.63. Shell also took sixth in the 100m dash, placing with a time of 12.05.
Tiffany Barnes (Queens Village, N.Y.) captured third place in the 400m dash. Barnes just made the finals, qualifying with the seventh best time in the heats. Barnes broke out in the finals, finishing in a time of 55.32. For her third place finish, Barnes received All-East accolades.
The Red Storm will host the SJU Twilight Meet on Saturday, May 26 at DaSilva Memorial Field on the campus of St. Johns University in Jamaica, N.Y.
