St. Johns Golf Lands Two Standout Players

JAMAICA, N.Y. Frank Darby, Golf coach at St. Johns University, has signed two players for the upcoming season. The Red Storm, coming off one of the programs best years ever, with an appearance at the NCAA East Regionals, are bringing in Kyle Sleasman and Tim McCarthy to an already deep and talented team.
The Red Storm, who finished second in the Big East and reached the NCAA East Regional, opened their fall season on September 8-9 at the Navy Fall Invitational. St. Johns plays next on September 21-22 at the James Madison Invitational.
Kyle Sleasman (Loudonville, N.Y./Scottsdale (Ariz.) Community College), comes to St. Johns as a transfer student from Scottsdale Community College, where he was a member of the National Junior College Team champions. Kyle won the Northern Arizona Amateur, beating a field comprised of players from the Arizona and Arizona State University golf programs. Sleasman recently won the Capital Region Amateur.
Kyle is a very solid player and will be an impact player in college golf, Darby said, He has a great work ethic and loves to play the game.
Tim McCarthy (Saddle River, N.J./Bergen Catholic), a product of Bergen Catholic High School in New Jersey which has had a reputation for producing a number of standout players like PGA Tour player Jim McGovern and Big East standout Eugene Smith. Tim had a great high school career and will step in and be a major contributor to the Red Storm.
Tim has a great all around game and is a hard-worker, Darby said.
With their new additions, and talented veterans, including Andrew Svoboda, Jesse Fitzgerald, Joe Saladino and John DeForest, the Red Storm are looking forward to another successful season.
