St. John’s Shoots Even Par at the BIG EAST Championships

Eli Weidmann sits tied for sixth place at Riverton Pointe Golf Club
HARDEEVILLE, S.C.– The St. John's men's golf team shot even par to take sixth place during the first two rounds at the BIG EAST Championships presented by JEEP on Sunday.
After play was postponed yesterday due to rain, the Johnnies carded a an even par, 576, over the first 36 holes of the conference tournament at Riverton Pointe Golf Club in Hardeeville, S.C. The Red Storm opened the event shooting a 2-over, 290, before closing the day with a 2-under, 286.
The Johnnies sit in the middle off the pack 11 strokes off the tournament leaders, Marquette at 11-under, 565. The Red Storm posted 34 birdies and 112 pars on Sunday.
Eli Weidmann led the charge tying for fifth place on the leaderboard on opening day. The Murphys, Calif., product carded a 4-under, 140, after turning in back-to-back rounds of 2-under, 70. The freshman sits two shot off two players tied for the individual lead and logged nine birdies over 36 holes.
After starting 6-over through five holes, Max McColgan engineered a remarkable turnaround in his BIG EAST Tournament debut. The freshman went bogey-free for the next 28 holes and flushed eight birdie putts during that span. The Lincoln, Mass., native finished tied for 18th and posted an even par, 144.
David Mlynek finished the day at 1-over, 145, to slide into the top-20. The senior tallied an even par, 72, and a 1-over, 73, over the latter 18 holes.
Joseph Dolezal ended the day tied for 30th registering a 3-over, 147, highlighted by an even par, 72, in the second round.
The Red Storm will be back in action tomorrow at 8:30 a.m.for the final round of the BIG EAST Championships. A stream will be available on GKLive TV and live results will be available on SCOREBOARD.
