Jamaica, N.Y. In the latest regional poll by NSCAA/adidas, the St. Johns womens soccer team is ranked seventh. The Red Storm were rewarded by Soccer Buzz for their hard work versus nationally-ranked Connecticut, moving up in the poll to No. 3.
In its first eight matches of the season, St. Johns went undefeated, compiling a 5-0-3 record. The Red Storms first loss came last Wednesday at the hands of then-No. 12 Connecticut.
The team has also garnered many individual honors this year. Freshman Kaitlin Schmidt (Centreach, N.Y.) and junior Courtney Rett (Valley Stream, N.Y.) have been named to both Soccer Americas and Soccer Buzzs Elite Teams of the Week. The BIG EAST has also honored Schmidt and senior Jen Taylor (South Hempstead, N.Y.) with player of the week accolades.
The Red Storm (5-1-3, 2-0 BIG EAST) travel to Stony Brook this afternoon for a non-conference match at the Seawolves Stadium. Kickoff is slated for 3:30 pm.
