St. Johns Volleyball Falls to Pittsburgh, 3-0

Jamaica, N.Y.The St. Johns volleyball team (12-9, 1-2) lost its BIG EAST home opener tonight to Pittsburgh, 3-0 (30-22, 30-26, 30-23), in a match played at Alumni Hall in Jamaica, N.Y. The Red Storm struggled offensively, hitting .107 as a team. Pittsburgh held the advantage up front hitting .213 from the field and recording a team total of 12 blocks.

St. Johns was led by junior Robyn Kurasaki (Milliani, Hawaii) who recorded a double-double with 39 assists and 11 digs. Freshman Jackie Ahlers (Stony Point, N.Y.) and sophomore Yana Ruban (Kiev, Ukraine) recorded nine kills apiece, while freshman Shannon Engle (San Jose, Calif.) tallied 10 digs at the libero position.

The Red Storm return to action on Sunday, October 6 when they host West Virginia. First serve is scheduled for 4:00 p.m. and the 50 fans to enter alumni Hall will receive a free volleyball.
