Red Storm Volleyball Tops West Virginia, 3-0

Leading the way for St. John's was the defense. The Red Storm recorded 50 digs and 14 block assists, while holding the Mountaineers to a .089 hitting percentage. The Red Storm came out fired up, jumping out to a quick 2-0 lead with a pair of 30-23 victories in games one and two. St. John's fell behind early in game three, but rallied late to seal the match, 30-28.
Freshman Jackie Ahlers (Stony Point, N.Y) and senior Sarah McCrary (Walnut, Calif.) led the Red Storm attack, each posting a double-double. Ahlers tallied 16 kills and 11 digs, while McCrary notched 13 kills and 13 digs. Freshman libero Shannon Engle (San Jose, Calif.) was solid on the back line, recording 10 digs. Junior setter Robyn Kurasaki (Milliani, Hawaii) dished out 38 assists.
The Red Storm return to action Wednesday, October 9 when they host Columbia at Alumni Hall. Game time is scheduled for 7:30 p.m.
