Ahlers is the first St. Johns player to earn post season BIG EAST honors since Robyn Kurasaki (Mililani, Hawaii) was named Rookie of the Year and Olga Roudovski named first team All-BIG EAST in 2000.
The award marks the second consecutive week the BIG EAST has honored Alhers, as she was named BIG EAST Co-Rookie of the Week for the week ending November 17. During that final week of the season, she led the Red Storm to victories over Providence and Boston College, hitting a combined .328 with 29 kills, 10 digs and seven blocks.
Ahlers was a force to be reckoned with in the middle and on the outside for the Red Storm, enjoying the most successful freshman season in St. Johns history. She set the program record for kills in a single season by a freshman, recording a conference leading and team-high 512 kills. Her 512 kills place her second on the St. Johns all-time list for kills in a single season and 11th on the career kills list.
For the season, to go along with her 512 kills, Ahlers tallied 73 blocks, 210 digs and 32 service aces.
Ahlers led the Red Storm to 17-16 overall record, including the programs first ever win over BIG EAST rival Connecticut.
