SJU Strides to Fourth Place Finish

The men were led by senior Jose Zayas (New York, N.Y./George Washington) who had two strong runs. Zayas placed first in the 1000 meter run with a time of 2:28.68 and second in the mile at 4:06.87. The Red Storm compiled another first place finish from senior George Maringapasi (KewKew Zimbabwe/Prince Edward School) in the high jump, as he continued his strong season with a distance of 2.06 meters. The men were also successful in the relay events. The 4x400 meter and the 4x800 meter relays both finished second, with times of 3:14.73 and 7:42.27, respectively.
Senior Sheba George (Brooklyn, N.Y./Samuel J. Tilden) continued her impressive season with two more victories. George won both the shot put and the weight throw, with distances of 14.91 and 18.02 meters. The women also receive an all-around solid performance from sophomore Alina Abramova (Armavik, Russia/Municipal Gymnasia). Abramova collected three top-three finishes in the pentathlon, triple jump, and long jump. She finished third in the pentathlon with 3232 points, just ahead of teammate Mika Rose (Westbury, N.Y./Holy Trinity) who finished with 3154. Abramovas best finish of the championship came as she finished second in the triple jump with a distance of 11.43 meters. In the long jump, Abramova took third just behind teammate Axum Gaines who leaped 5.47 meters.
The Red Storms next meet will be Friday, February 8th in the Collegiate Invite at the Armory.
