SJUs Holmes Named BIG EAST Pitcher of the Week

JAMAICA, N.Y. -- Senior pitcher Greg Holmes (Stony Brook, N.Y.) was named BIG EAST Pitcher of the Week, it was announced today by conference officials.

Holmes led the Red Storm (8-10, 2-1 BIG EAST) during a weekend series against Villanova, helping the team win two of three games during the first series of BIG EAST play.

The senior captain went 7.1 innings and allowed only two runs, both unearned, on four hits, as the Red Storm beat the Wildcats, 16-2, and swept a doubleheader on Saturday.

It was the second start this season for Holmes, who is 2-0 with a 0.68 earned run average in his last two appearances. Overall this season, Holmes is 2-0 with a 3.44 earned run averaged in five appearances.

Holmes has a 4-6 career record with a 4.64 earned run average.

St. Johns continues its BIG EAST schedule, playing a pair of games on Thursday at Pittsburgh, and on Saturday at West Virginia.
