St. Johns Womens Volleyball Picked Ninth in Preseason Poll

The Red Storm, who finished 18-9 overall last season, return four starters back and with a strong recruiting class, head coach Joanne Persico-Smith hopes her team can advance to the BIG EAST Tournament.
Junior Robyn Kurasaki (Milliani, Hawaii) returns as the Red Storms anchor. As SJUs lone setter for the past two seasons, Kurasaki has tallied 2,441 assists, second on the programs all-time list.
Senior Sarah McCrary (Walnut, Calif.) and junior Rosalyn Dang (Honolulu, Hawaii) are expected to step up and spark the offense. McCrary made an immediate impact last season with the Red Storm, leading the team in kills with 297, averaging 3.03 per game. Dang, a versatile player who can play anywhere on the floor, was among the top three in six offensive categories for the Red Storm in 2001. She led the team in hitting percentage while posting 252 kills, 198 digs, 52 total blocks, 40 service aces and 75 assists.
Senior Meaghan Creedon (Rohnert Park, Calif.) is the Red Storms only returning middle hitter. After serving as a reserve in her first two seasons, she played in 75 games for the Red Storm last year. Creedon tallied 107 kills, 38 blocks, 38 digs, and six service aces in her breakout season.
The Red Storm open up the 2002 season on Friday, August 30 at home with a match against Big Ten powerhouse Wisconsin.
