St. Johns Sweeps Two Matches at Wagner

The Red Storm got off to a fast start in the early match against St. Francis winning game one, 30-24. The second game of the match was a see-saw battle and the Red Storm was able to pull out it out in the end, 32-30. St. Johns would win game three, 30-24, to seal the victory.
St. Johns was led on offense by freshman Jackie Ahlers (Stony Point, N.Y.) who recorded 17 kills on 34 attempts. Senior Meaghan Creedon (Rohnert Park, Calif.) contributed with nine kills on 16 attempts with a .500 hitting percentage. Junior setter Robyn Kurasaki (Milliani, Hawaii) had a solid all-around game, recording 36 assists and eight defensive digs while senior Sarah McCrary (Walnut, Calif.) added eight kills on 19 attempts.
In the nightcap, St, Johns was in control for the better portion of the match winning in three games, 30-20, 30-16, and 30-14. McCrary led the way on offense with 13 kills on 23 attempts. Freshman Dimitra Samas (Jamaica Estates, N.Y.) added eight kills on 10 attempts with a .600 hitting percentage. Kurasaki had another strong game with 33 assists and freshman Yana Ruban (Kiev, Ukraine) added seven kills for the Red Storm.
The Red Storm return to action this weekend when they host the SJU Classic on September 6-7. St. Johns, Towson (Md.), Fairleigh Dickinson, and Long Island University will compete in a round robin tournament format. The Red Storm are schedule to play Fairleigh Dickinson on Friday, September 6 at 8:00 p.m. They the close out the tournament with two games on Saturday, September 7 against Long Island and Towson at 10 a.m. and 2:00 p.m., respectively.
