St. John's Competes in the BIG EAST Championships

Bronx, N.Y. - The St. John's Cross Country team participated in the BIG EAST Championships this afternoon at historic Van Cortlandt Park, in the Bronx. The Red Storm placed 14th overall behind National Ranked teams such as Notre Dame and Providence.
Sophomore Jasmine Barreto (Staten Island, N.Y.) led the Red Storm in the 6K run crossing the line at 25:15 to place 95th overall. Kathleen Maher (Mineola, N.Y.) finished next for St. John's at 26:31 (104th). Sophomores Aja Williams (Brooklyn, N.Y.) (27:17, 107th) and Tarashon Broomes (Fairlawn, N.J.) (36:05, 113th), along with freshman Shani Spence (West Orange, N.J.) (27:43, 109th) gave a strong performance for the Red Storm at this highly competitive meet.
The St. John's Cross Country team will return to action at the NCAA Northeast Regional competition in Franklin Park, Boston, Massachusetts on November 15, 2003.
