Track and Field Competes At BIG EAST Championships

The top finisher for St. Johns was junior Dewayne Barrett (Brooklyn, N.Y.) who finished first in 500-meter dash, clocking a time of 1:03.14. Classmate Mohammed Kanu (Mt. Laurel, N.J.) also had a top 10 finish, placing sixth in the 400-meter dash with a time of 49.17. The mens 4x400 relay team finished third with a time of 3:16.10.
In the throwing events, graduate student Jason Goulart (Providence, R.I.) continued his stellar season by finishing second in the mens weight throw, with a toss of 17.39m. Senior Dietrech Washington (Nashua, N.H.) also earned a second place finish, in the shot put, with a mark of 14.48m.
On the womens side, junior Alina Abramova (Armavir, Russia) earned two top 10 finishes, a fourth place finish in the triple jump with a mark of 12.62m and an eighth place finish in the long jump at 5.75m. Senior Mika Rose (Westbury, N.Y.) and sophomore Blessing Egwu (Queens, N.Y.) both earned seventh place finishes in their events. Rose, with a mark of 1.55m in the high jump and Egwu in weight throw with a toss of 15.94m.
The St. Johns mens and womens indoor track and field teams return to action on March 1, when they travel Blacksburg, Va. to compete in the Virginia Tech Last Chance Meet.
