Catalanos First Place Finish in 400m Hurdles Leads St. Johns

Starting off the season with a bang was graduate student Ben Catalano(Carle Place, N.Y.), whose time of 53.49 in the 400 meter hurdles gave him a first place finish in the event.
Also having success in the 400 meter hurdles were the women, as they had two runners finish in the top five in the event. Junior Sophie Sylvain (Mount Vernon, N.Y.) finished fourth with a time of 1:09.56 and senior Mika Rose (Westbury, N.Y.) finished just behind her in fifth place, clocking a time of 1:12.62.
In the throwing events, the men earned two sixth place finishes in both the hammer throw and the javelin. In the hammer throw, graduate student Jason Goulart (Providence, R.I.) tossed a 55.26 in his event and sophomore Joshua Brown (Wallingford, Pa.) scored a 56.51 in the javelin.
The women also earned two fifth place finishes in the throwing and multi events. Junior Alina Abramova (Armavir, Russia) continued her success in the long jump, earning yet another top five finish in the event with a score of 5.64m. Sophomore Grace Zollman (Joseph, Ore.) earned her first fifth place finish of the year with a toss of 36.34m in the javelin.
The St. Johns mens and womens outdoor track and field teams return to action on March 28, when they travel to the campus of Louisiana State University, in Baton Rouge, La., to compete in the Paper Tiger Invitational.
