Track and Field Earn Top-10 Finishes At Penn Relays

In the field events, junior Alina Abramova (Armavir, Russia) earned a third place finish in the college womens triple jump, with a mark of 12.44m, which tied the meet record at the time of her jump. Graduate student Jason Goulart (Providence, R.I.) also finished in the top 10 in the college mens hammer throw, placing eighth, with a toss of 55.70m.
In the mens relays, St. Johns got two third place finishes from its 4x400 team of Andy Mitchell (Elmont, N.Y.), Dewayne Barrett (Brooklyn, N.Y.), Ashawn Knight (Jamaica, N.Y.), and Eric Stoddard (Hannawa, N.Y.) as they finshed with a time of 3:15.89. Also the 4x8oo team of Mitchell, Barrett, Mohammed Kanu (Mt. Laurel, N.J.) and Marc Crosswell (Elmont, N.Y.) placed third, clocking a time of 7:38.02. The 4x100 team of Barrett, Stoddard, Kanu, and Jamiel Hendricks (Great Neck, N.Y.) placed first in their trial heat, clocking a time of 42.45 in the event.
In the womens relays, the 4x100 team of Judy Williams (Philadelphia, Pa.), Katy-Ann Reid (Windsor, Conn.), Denise Raab (Lake Ronkonkoma, N.Y.), and Shernette Hyatt-Davis (West Hempstead, N.Y.) placed seventh in their heat, finishing with a time of 48.44. The 4x400 team of Reid, Hyatt-Davis, Tarashon Broomes (Fairlawn, N.J.), and Charline Sealy (Brooklyn, N.Y.) earned an eighth place finish in their trial heat, clocking a 3:52.90.
The St. Johns mens and womens rack and field teams return to action on May 2nd, when the travel to Storrs, Conn. to compete in the 2003 BIG EAST Championships.
