Davis and Egwu Shine At New Balance Collegiate Invitational

New York, N.Y.- The St. John's Track and Field team placed ninth out of thirty in the university division at the fourth annual New Balance Collegiate Invitational this past weekend at the 169th Armory.
Shernette Davis (West Hempstead, N.Y.) set a women's division meet record in the 200m at 23.82 on Friday, passing the 2003 24.01 mark of Veronique Wilson of Florida International University. Davis went on to place second in the 200m finals on Saturday with a time of 23.86. Davis also marked an individual season best time in the 400m at 53.96, placing second in that event.
The Red Storm throwing unit showed another strong performance this weekend and was lead by junior Blessing Egwu (Queens, N.Y.) who placed first in the weight throw at 17.06m, her season best. Tetee Kuyateh (Providence, R.I.) also threw well for St. John's, placing second in the shot put at 12.12m.
The St. John's Track and Field team returns to action this weekend when their top performers of the season will compete at the BIG EAST Championships at the Carrier Dome in Syracuse, N.Y.
