Men's Tennis Tops Local Rival Stony Brook, 4-2

Stony Brook, N.Y. - The men's tennis team beat local rival Stony Brook, ranked 75th (ITA), 4-2 this afternoon in their final match of the 2004 regular season. The win snapped Stony Brook's 11-match winning streak and improves the Red Storm's overall record to 12-9 overall.
St. John's took four of the six singles points, leaving no need for doubles action in today's match.
After Tal Meir took the second set 7-6 from Louis Desmarteaux in the No. 1 spot, Desmarteaux won the battle in the tiebreaker 7-1 to give St. John's a 1-0 lead. David Nylen, who boasts one of the top records in the region, won 6-2, 6-7 (3) at No. 2, giving the Red Storm a two point cushion.
The Seawolves bounced back taking the No. 3 and No. 4 points, before Morgan Bauer's 6-4, 7-5 win at No. 5 put St. John's back on top. In the deciding match, Claudio Holim fought off Stony Brook's Philippe Amireault, 7-5, 7-5, to claim the match for the Red Storm.
St. John's will head to the 2004 BIG EAST Tournament on April 29 in Miami, Fla.
