SAN DIEGO -- Angela Clark scored 17 points and had nine rebounds to lead the St. John's women's basketball team, but the Red Storm fell to second-ranked Duke, 105-57, Wednesday night at the Surf 'N Slam Holiday Classic.
Clark's 17 points were a game-high, and she just barely missed notching her seventh double-double of the year, as her nine rebounds were also the game's best total.
Monique McLean (11 points) and Kia Wright (10 points) were also in double figures for St. John's, which dropped to 9-2 on the season.
Duke jumped out to an early 17-2 lead at the 13-minute mark, but St. John's battled back to cut the lead to just eight points on a McLean 3-pointer with seven minutes remaining in the first half.
Duke responded, however, and eventually built a 44-26 halftime lead.
In the second half, the Blue Devils had a balanced attack as Chante Black (16 points) and Monique Currie (15 points) led six Blue Devils in double figures. As a team, they hit a school-record tying 13 3-pointers during the contest.
St. John's continues action at the Surf 'N Slam Holiday Classic on Friday, Dec. 30, when it takes on Montana State (0-10) at 6 p.m. (9 p.m. ET).
