Hoyas Knock Off Red Storm, 64-57

Queens, NY - Despite a 19-4 run by the Red Storm to open the second half, the Georgetown Hoyas hung on for a 64-57 win over St. John's tonight at Carnesecca Arena. The Red Storm fall to 17-8 overall and 6-8 in the league, while the Hoyas, improve to 10-15 overall and 5-9 in the BIG EAST.
Georgetown jumped to an early 18-11 margin midway through the first half, behind 4-for-4 shooting from behind the arc, including three by Kate Carlin. St. John's followed with four consecutive points to cut the deficit to 18-15 with 7:54 remaining. The Hoyas would hold the Red Storm scoreless over the next 4:24 to open up their largest lead of the game at 29-15. St. John's would chip away at the lead and a jumper by sophomore Kia Wright (Copiague, NY) to end the half gave Georgetown a 33-23 lead into the break.
The Red Storm would come out with more intensity in the second frame, as they scored the first eight points and put together a 19-4 to open the half, taking a 42-37 lead with 15:03 left. Over the run, seniors Greeba Barlow (Columbia, MD) and Kati Kurtosi (Miskolic, Hungary) combined for 12 points, giving the Red Storm their first lead of the game. The St. John's lead would not hold as Georgetown fought back and went on an 18-4 run of the own over the next 8:50 to put the game away. The Red Storm would get within three in the last minute, but the Hoyas would hit seven of their last eight free throws in the last minute to hold on for the 64-57 win.
Carlin would lead three Hoyas in double-figures with 16 points, including 14 in the first half, as Kieraah Marlow added 14 and Bethany LeSueur chipped in 13.
The Red Storm posted four players in double-figures, but only shot 30.0% from the field and 25.0% from behind the arc. Sophomore Angela Clark (Copiague, NY) had her third straight double-double, as she poured in 11 points and pulled down 14 boards. Barlow led the team with 16 points, despite shooting 5-for-14 from the field. Wright scored 15 points, while adding eight rebounds and a team-high six assists. Kurtosi rounded out the scorers in double-figures with 14. St. John's returns to the court on Saturday, February 26, when they travel to Providence, RI to take on the Friars at 2 pm.
