Track and Field Shows Impressive Performance at Rossi Relays

Saturday, February 26, 2005, Claremont, CA -- In its first outdoor meet of the season, the St. John's University track and field team gave an impressive performance this afternoon at the Ninth Annual Rossi Relays in Claremont, CA.
Junior Kay-Dian Reid captured first place in the 100m with a time of 12.17 for the Red Storm. In the relay events, the 800m sprint medley team came from behind to win at 1:43.85. The 4x400m relay team took third place at 3:57.24.
In the field events, graduate student Grace Zollman placed first in the javelin with a distance of 42.59m, while Blessing Egwu (second, 51.46m) and Judy Owens (48.36m) rounded out the top three in the hammer throw. Junior Tetee Kuyateh placed second at 12.83m and Owens place fourth at 12.29m in the shot put. Kellie Brown placed third in the long jump at 5.42m.
"I am very please with our performance this afternoon," said head coach Jim Hurt. "We looked good and scored well against competitive teams such as USC, UC San Diego and UC Irvine."
The Red Storm returns to action next Saturday, March 5 when they will travel to Boston, MA for the ECAC Indoor Track and Field Championships.
