Track and Field Competes at Collegiate Invitational

New York, NY (February 5, 2005) - The St. John's University track and field team competed at the Collegiate Invitational this weekend held at the New Balance Track and Field Center at the Armory in New York, NY.
Blessing Egwu led the Red Storm, placing fourth in the weight throw at 62'9". Egwu also scored in the shot put, placing sixth, while teammate Judy Owens came in fifth.
Graduate student Kerrian Stewart also continued her outstanding indoor season with a 24.18 time in the 200m. Stewart also led the 4x400m relay team to its best time of the season at 3:47.83.
In the mid-distance events, Jasmine Barreto qualified for the BIG EAST Championships with her time of 2:15 in the 800m for the Red Storm. Barreto also led the distance medley relay team when they took fifth place with an ECAC qualifying time of 12:08.02.
"We had a number of qualifying performances against the top teams in the country and I feel that our athletes know they can compete at the national level," said Head Coach Jim Hurt. "We have two weeks to prepare for the BIG EAST Indoor Championships and with everyone healthy we will continue to improve as we get to the closer to the other Championship meets in the weeks ahead."
St. John's returns to action this weekend at the NYRR/St. Valentine's meets.
